A love of meeting and hosting on their prime-positioned property brought about this project for a gregarious Northland-based couple. Long-term clients of Kate’s, their love of travel (specifically managing guided tours to Africa) sowed the idea of a luxury tent for special guests. And, with a great deal of trust, it was Kate’s job to bring this idea to reality.

The first of its kind in New Zealand, this luxurious safari-style tent (manufactured in Bali) was custom-built with numerous additional specifications. Far from a breezy place to lay your head, this tent has two generous bedrooms, each with its own plumbed-in ensuite, as well as a spacious living with a fully functioning kitchen – and even a fireplace!
True to her belief in incorporating personal details and being as resourceful as possible, Kate crafted an interior that reflects the owner's many adventures travelling abroad. After trawling through family photo albums, she selected and printed feature images from Africa. She also curated a selection of antiques from the owner’s personal storage, layering the texture of these exotic antique pieces and fabrics with new, bespoke and custom made commissions. This ensures The Clifftops is not just a luxurious stay, but a thoughtful, deeply personal and intimate feeling of home.
